Skype Security Risk

An updated version of Skype has been released in order to close a security vulnerability detected this week. Version 3.8.0.139 of Skype for Windows is now available for download here.

Earlier this week, a potentially serious security flaw was found which, according to Skype “could allow an attacker to construct a malicious file URI and send it to the intended victim. Upon clicking the link, execution of arbitrary code on the victim’s machine will be possible”.

It is recommended that all users of Skype (for Windows only), using any version before 3.8.0.139, download the update from the Skype website, rather than rely on the ‘Check for Updates’ feature within Skype.
