New additions to Apple range

Apple today released a range of product updates and a new mouse just a couple of days before the release of Windows 7.

Firstly the iMac range has been updated to include two new sizes; 21.5 inch and 27 inch screens both capable of playing movies at full 1080p resolution. The screen area has been maximised and features the black bezel that the existing 24 inch cinema displays have featured for a few months.  Starting at £949 the iMac machine can now handle a maximum of 16GB of RAM and up to 2TB of storage. The 27 inch model can utilise either the i5 or i7 ‘Nehalem’ processors as well as featuring the ability to wall-mount courtesy of the VESA compatible mount kit.

Apple’s most successful laptop ever, the MacBook, has been updated to include the Unibody design of the MacBook Pro line. Costing £799 the MacBook now comes as standard with the 2.26Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 250GB hard drive space and 2GB of RAM. The battery technology has been revamped to match the other models, now giving a maximum of 7 hours of battery life. Although the glass trackpad has now been added, the laptop’s body enclosure is still a polycarbonated material as previous models, as opposed to the aluminium featured in the Pro range.

The Magic Mouse is the latest in the history of Apple mice to arrive. Attempting to mimic the functionality of the MacBook trackpads, it features the ability to swipe and zoom as well as the standard click and scroll. Costing £55 the Magic Mouse will be an interesting experiment with consumers interest in touch technology.

Do you have any experience with the new mouse? It looks intriguing.

We have tested the Magic Mouse and found it a very clever use of technology, however we are not sure it would be suitable for use over long periods of time. We highly recommend the Microsoft Natural Wireless Laser 6000 for superb comfort.
