Apple announces iPad

Apple have finally unveiled their much rumoured tablet style device, the iPad. Weighing just 1.5 pounds and boasting a 9.7 inch IPS capacitive touchscreen, 10 hours of battery life (a month on standby) and a custom designed 1Ghz ‘A4’ processor. The device, which comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models, shares the operating system with the iPhone and iPod touch and can run all applications currently in the app store (developers have today been issued a new SDK to allow upscaling to iPad dimensions).
Connectivity will be familiar to current iPhone/iPod owners; the standard Apple 30-pin Dock connector, a speaker, a microphone, Bluetooth, 802.11n WiFi. A mobile version will be available with 3G connectivity provided by a yet to be determined telecom provider in the UK.
With prices only announced in US dollars so far – $499 for 16GB, 32GB for $599, and $699 for 64GB. The addition of 3G costs $130 extra per model.  A keyboard dock which also acts as a stand was also announced as well as a case which folds into a stand in two form factors.
The iPad will be available to buy from 28th March 2010ipad.
