Michael Jackson Email Threat

Numerous hoax and spam emails have emerged during the last few days that all rely on the public’s interest in the Michael Jackson story. The worst so far is a mass-mailing worm discovered by security experts Symantec and codenamed W32.Ackantta.F@mm.

This worm sends out spam emails with the subject “Remembering Michael Jackson” and an attachment named “Michael songs and pictures.zip”. The .zip file contains another file called “MichaelJacksonsongsandpictures.doc.exe” which executes itself on the victim’s machine when opened.

It is important to note that W32.Ackantta.F@mm also spreads via USB removable drives as well as email.

Here is how the email would appear in a user’s inbox:

Users of the RealWorld Email Filtering system will be protected from this worm.
