iPhone 2.0 Coming July 11th

The 2nd generation iPhone has been confirmed and will be available in the UK from 11th July.

O2 have confirmed that the device will be 3G and fully Microsoft Exchange ready. It will be available free on selected business tariffs and it will also now be available for pay as you go customers.

The 8GB model of the 3G iPhone will cost just £99, if selected on a new £30 per month tariff and the existing £35 per month tariff.

Anyone subscribing to the higher £45 or £75 monthly tariffs will get the 8GB 3G iPhone for free.



There will also be a higher capacity 16GB 3G iPhone which will cost £159 on the £30 and £35 tariffs, £59 on the £45 tariff and it will be free on the £75 tariff.

O2 – iPhone Prices Dropped

Phone provider O2 have announced a price drop of £100 to the 8GB model of the iPhone. This is almost certainly a marketing strategy to clear stocks of the current model to make way for the ‘iPhone 2.0’ coming this June.
However at £169, the current model represents a bargain for those who would not necessarily be interested in paying a surplus for the 3G capability of the second generation model.

3G iPhone nearly definite?

ATTDid the CEO of AT&T Mobility, Ralph de la Vega, proverbially spill the beans on the 3G iPhone?

He is reported as saying at an event yesterday that all of AT&T’s smartphones will be 3G in the next few months, and on questioning he is quoted as saying;

 “Let me repeat what I said: I think that you’re going to see our integrated devices be 3G devices in the not-too-distant future, and I mean months. That should be clear enough.”

Although this isn’t confirmation, its as close as we will probably get before iDay (the WWDC, starts June 9th). So it’s time to celebrate! (and start saving for a new phone…)

Also, does this mean the 3G iPhone will hit the UK after the compulsory 5 month wait? Or will the fact that the UK already has 3G set up and working mean that we will get it straight away? Doubtful, but one everyone can hope.

iPhone Shortage

After some recent research, Appleinsider has learnt that there is a shortage of iPhones in the US.

Three of the major of Apples flagship stores are sold out, with the employees told that other stores locally are sold out. This includes nearly all of the AT&T shops. (AT&T is the iPhone’s network in the US).

Does this mean they are running their stocks dry before a big release of new iPhone in June? Possibly, but it seems a pretty early to leave the US with no iPhones.

Oh and don’t worry, the drought hasn’t extended to europe. (yet….)

3G iPhone?

Mr Jobs and his babyIs there a 3G iPhone coming this June? Goldman Sachs seem to think so, which is a good sign (oh, and that little note Mr Jobs made when he released the original iPhone; ”3G phones and all sorts of amazing things in the future”…). So is the time now?

Rumours have been flying around that Apple have ordered 10 Million 3G iPhone units, which is more than the total number of iPhone that have been sold to date (still on O2 or not…).

These rumors could be horribly wrong, but Goldman Sachs correctly predicted the 16GB iPhone that was released this past February, so you never know.
